Open-Face vs. Submerged Wet Gate Systems
Compare the two primary technical methodologies used to coat film in indexing fluid during high-speed scans.

Engineers have developed two primary mechanical methodologies for applying index-matching fluid to moving film strips: open-face gates and fully submerged chambers.
Open-Face Wet Gates
Open-face systems apply a thin layer of liquid to both sides of the film immediately before it passes the aperture. Capillary action spreads the fluid evenly under tension. These systems use less fluid and are easier to clean, but are sensitive to air bubbles and high-speed evaporation.
Submerged Chamber Gates
Submerged systems pull the entire film path through a sealed chamber filled completely with fluid. This guarantees 100% elimination of air boundaries and allows high-speed scanning without dry patches, though it requires robust plumbing, specialized seals, and higher volumes of fluid.
