9.5mm Format
Core Term Definition
An early amateur film format introduced by Pathé Frères in 1922 featuring sprocket holes located in the center of the film strip.
Technical Analysis & Context
A highly innovative French format, 9.5mm placed a single perforation in the center of the film strip between adjacent frames. This allowed the entire width of the film to be used for the image, making the frame size nearly as large as 16mm despite the narrower overall width of the physical stock.
