Continuous-Motion Film Scanner
Core Term Definition
A sprocketless film scanner that pulls the film smoothly and continuously past the scan sensor.
Technical Analysis & Context
Unlike intermittent scanners, continuous-motion scanners use line-scan sensors or ultra-fast flashing LEDs to capture frames while the film is moving smoothly. This eliminates the mechanical stress of stopping the film repeatedly, making it ideal for fragile, severely shrunk, or brittle archival stocks.
