Splice Repair
Core Term Definition
The physical re-joining of broken or fragile film splices using specialized cement or archival splicing tape.
Technical Analysis & Context
Old films contain hundreds of individual edits joined by cement or tape. Over decades, these splices dry out and fail. Before running a film through a high-speed scanner, technicians must manually inspect and reinforce every single splice under a magnifying glass.
