Internegative (IN)
Core Term Definition
A duplicate negative made directly from a fine-grain interpositive, used to print multiple exhibition prints.
Technical Analysis & Context
Because printing hundreds of copies directly from the original camera negative would scratch and destroy it, labs print an interpositive first, copy that IP onto an internegative, and then use that internegative to make the theatrical release prints.
