Technical Analysis & Context
Invented by George Albert Smith and launched in 1908, Kinemacolor was an additive system. Black-and-white film was shot and projected at twice the normal speed (32 frames per second) through a rotating color wheel containing alternating red and green filters, relying on persistence of vision to blend colors.
