Density Correction

Core Term Definition

The digital or physical adjustment of overall brightness and exposure levels across variable film sequences.

Technical Analysis & Context

Due to aging, solarization, or poor original exposure, different scenes in a film print may have widely different densities (darkness levels). Density correction balances these scenes so that the narrative flows smoothly without jarring jumps in contrast and black levels.
